Getting to know Joseph Yourchock

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in criminal justice and social services. I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Central Michigan University. I worked in the criminal justice field as a probation officer for six years. Prior to that, I worked with families using conflict mediation and resolution strategies through the court system. For the past four years, I have worked in a community setting assisting with mental health needs as a counselor.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I have work experience with crisis intervention, individual, couple, and family therapy. I also have work experience assisting with co-occurring disorders as well as severe and persistent mental illness.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions will usually begin with an initial check in on what is happening that current week with the client. After processing through any initial issues that have come up the session will shift focus towards the major issues that have been identified by the client. Sessions are always guided by the clients wants and needs. I provide trauma informed care for all individuals and utilize an eclectic approach that centers around Cognitive and Choice theories. I aim to help clients process through their major life struggles and provide support during session.
