Josephine Barclay, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
Hi there, I'm Josephine! My name is Josephine Barclay, Australian born and raised, so I do have an accent. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Licensed Clinical Dependency Counselor, working in Texas via telehealth. I work with older teens, adults, and couples, specializing in life changes, anxiety, stress, depression, grief, trauma, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, LGBTQIA+, and substance and alcohol use. My approach My approach to each client is eclectic and tends to focus on the needs of each client. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy, I meet every client with a person-centered approach. I commonly draw from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Existential Therapy, depending on the client's diagnosis and what is the best evidence-based practice. My focus I have worked for years in a busy psychiatric hospital and worked with an extensive array of psychiatric disorders. The patients ranged in age from teens through to the elderly. I specialized in life changes, suicidal ideation, self-harm, anxiety, stress, depression, grief, trauma, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, LGBTQIA+, and substance and alcohol use. Also work with couples and relationship issues. My communication style My communication style is calm and empathetic. Our sessions are your safe space. You are allowed to communicate, and be heard without opinions or judgment. I want you to be comfortable to open up, and be heard. My journey to mental healthcare My journey to becoming a therapist started with my own experience, with depression. This experience had me searching for why it happened, leading to me completing a master's degree in psychology. My search revealed the importance of mental health, and that lead me to complete a master's in clinical mental health counseling. This enables me to help others in their tough times and come out stronger with mental health tools, for life.
