Joshua Cervone, LCSW

Psychotherapist
309 S New York Rd, Ste 11, Galloway, NJ
Hey there! I'm Josh, and I've been helping people in Southern New Jersey since 2005, when I started working with young people who needed support in Atlantic City. After graduating from Stockton University in 2014, I knew I wanted to create a warm, welcoming space where people could feel truly heard and supported – which is why I opened our practice in 2017 and moved to our current spot in 2020. I love working with folks who are looking for someone to talk to about life's challenges. As someone who deeply values faith, I've also done extra training to help people who want to bring their Christian beliefs into our conversations together. Whether you're looking to explore your faith as part of our work together or not, I'm here to support you in a way that feels right for you. My goal is simple – to create a comfortable, judgment-free space where you can be yourself and work through whatever's on your mind. Think of it as having a conversation with someone who's genuinely interested in helping you navigate life's ups and downs.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me feels like having a conversation with a trusted friend who also happens to have the clinical tools to help you navigate a storm. My style is warm, authentic, and direct. I believe that therapy is most effective when it is grounded in a strong relationship, so I prioritize creating an environment where you feel safe and heard. As a Christian counselor, I offer a unique perspective for those who want their spiritual values to lead the way in their healing journey. However, my clinical training as an LCSW ensures that our work is also grounded in proven therapeutic strategies. You can expect a balance of grace and truth; I will support you where you are, but I will also challenge you to grow into the person God created you to be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is all about "the story." I want to hear about your background, your current challenges, and what you hope to achieve. From there, we work together to set clear, actionable goals. A typical session involves: Check-in: We discuss your week and any immediate stressors. The Work: We dive into specific patterns or hurdles, often looking at how your faith and your history intersect with your current behavior. Action Steps: I rarely like to leave a session without a practical "takeaway." This might be a communication exercise to try with your spouse or a specific scripture to meditate on during the week. My goal is for you to walk out of each hour feeling more equipped and more hopeful than when you walked in.
