“Josh is great. He's professional and will work on different areas the way you prefer. He asks the right questions and never pushes or tries to sway you one way or the other. He was really helpful in letting me come to terms with going no-contact with my family and it's been the most peaceful year of my life. I would highly recommend working with him if you are looking for guidance in any type of trauma, anxiety, depression, or confused about something in life. I really owe it to him for helping me get through some dark times.”

Getting to know Joshua Wigget

I believe that meaningful therapy is a collaborative process—one that fosters self-understanding, healing, and a more fulfilling life. I understand how anxiety can hold people back. For a long time, it got in my way too. It made social situations feel overwhelming, clouded my ability to think clearly, and kept me from showing up fully. Through my own journey, I learned that anxiety doesn’t have to be in control. Now, I help clients develop practical tools to manage anxiety in the moment while also exploring the deeper patterns behind it. My goal is to help others build a stronger sense of calm, clarity, and confidence. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Family and Individual Development and my Master’s in Counseling from Northern Illinois University. I have spent a significant part of my life abroad, immersing myself in different cultures and perspectives. These experiences inform my understanding of identity, transition, and belonging—especially for those navigating life between cultures. Whether the change is related to location, relationships, or internal growth, I’m here to help. I am LGBTQ+ allied and experienced in working with anxiety, depression, non-traditional relationship structures, and diverse sexual practices. I offer an affirming, nonjudgmental space where clients can reflect, heal, and strengthen their capacity for emotional intimacy. Outside of therapy, I enjoy playing guitar, spending time with my cats, going to concerts and comedy shows, and staying active through hiking, biking, and working out. I continue to explore the world through travel, embracing new cultures, foods, and perspectives along the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m here to walk alongside you through both self-discovery and rediscovery. I view therapy as a process of moving closer to your ideal self—creating a life that feels more grounded, intentional, and fulfilling. I believe you already hold a deep understanding of yourself, and my role is to help you access and strengthen that insight. Together, we’ll identify patterns, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools that support meaningful, lasting change. My approach to therapy is both practical and deeper-level. On one hand, we focus on building concrete skills—such as mindfulness, communication strategies, grounding techniques, and identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns. On the other, we explore the underlying “why”—looking at core patterns, emotional experiences, and parts of yourself that may be shaping how you think, feel, and respond. By working from both angles, we’re able to create change that is not only effective in the moment, but also lasting at a deeper level. I take a direct, honest, and compassionate approach. I value accountability and will challenge you when needed, while also creating a space where you feel supported and understood. If you’re looking for a therapist who will be both real with you and fully in your corner, we may be a strong fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach is both practical and deeper-level, and our work together typically reflects that balance. Early on, we’ll focus on understanding what’s bringing you in, identifying patterns, and clarifying what you want to change or move toward. From there, our work tends to move in two directions. On a practical level, we’ll focus on building skills you can actually use in your day-to-day life—like learning how to respond to anxiety in the moment, how to regulate your emotions more effectively, communicate more clearly, stay grounded under stress, and shift unhelpful thinking patterns. We’ll also take a look at the day-to-day factors that impact how you feel overall, such as sleep, exercise, diet, work-life balance, and your social life. At the same time, we’ll explore the underlying “why”—looking at deeper emotional patterns, past experiences, and internal dynamics that shape how you think, feel, and respond. This may include parts-based (Internal Family Systems) work to better understand different aspects of yourself and create more internal alignment. Sessions are collaborative and conversational, but also focused. I’ll offer direct feedback, ask thoughtful questions, and help keep you accountable to your goals. My aim is for you to leave sessions not only with insight, but with clear direction on how to apply what we’re working on in your life.
