“I’ve been working with Josh for close to a year now, and have really valued our time together. From the very first session he created a safe, non-judgmental space where I felt heard and understood. His ability to listen deeply and offer thoughtful, insightful feedback has been incredibly helpful. What I truly appreciate is his empathetic approach - he balances kindness and understanding with constructive guidance that has helped me make real, meaningful progress. He has an incredible way of asking the right questions that make me reflect and grow, but never pushes too hard or makes me feel rushed. Since I've begun working with Josh, I’ve noticed significant positive changes in my mindset and coping strategies. Josh is also very approachable, down-to-earth, and genuinely invested in my well-being. He’s professional but always personable, which makes it easy to open up and build trust. :)”

Getting to know Joshua Williams

I’m glad you’re looking for support! I'm an independent therapist in private practice with Prairieland Therapy. I help adults of all ages navigate anxiety, grief, depression, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Many of my clients feel stuck. They often arrive feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure about what they want or how to move forward. Some are coping with recent loss or change, while others are carrying things that go back further. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, which has equipped me with the skills to provide compassionate and effective care. Therapy is a place to slow down, reflect, and feel more able to meet what life is asking of you. It’s a relationship rooted in seeing, dignity, and steady support. I believe everyone deserves to be safely and joyfully themself. You don’t need to be in crisis to begin. Sometimes people come to therapy when something feels off or out of reach. If you’re hoping to ease emotional pain, understand yourself more deeply, or move forward in your life, I’d be honored to help guide you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Therapy with me is steady, reflective work, a space to grow over time. I offer a thoughtful, supportive environment where you can feel seen, understood, and less alone in whatever you’re carrying. I believe in each person’s capacity to grow and change, especially through difficulty. I bring warmth, curiosity, and respect to each session. My approach blends psychodynamic, relational, and trauma-informed therapies. That means we’ll talk not just about the ‘what’ but the ‘why’—how patterns may be shaped by earlier experiences. When we understand the deeper roots of how we respond, relate, and protect ourselves, we open up the possibility to choose differently. Therapy is a space for honest and lasting change, rooted in who you really are and where you want to go.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy can bring relief—a softening of pressure, a quieter mind, a sense of steadiness that wasn’t there before. You might begin to feel more present in your body, more connected to your values, less reactive, and more able to move through life with clarity and care. Some clients notice they’re second-guessing themselves less, sleeping better, or responding more calmly in situations that used to overwhelm them. Sessions take place through a secure video platform called SimplePractice. You’ll set up your client login as part of your intake paperwork. In our first session, we’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and explore next steps. There will be time for questions and to see if we’re a good fit. Together is almost always easier than alone!

I ask that clients be mindful of their insurance coverage and thoughtful in scheduling, as Zocdoc does not allow messaging before booking. Please note that by booking here, you are scheduling a full session. This platform does not support no cost consultations. If you book without active insurance benefits, or if your plan does not begin paying until a deductible is met, you will be responsible for paying the session fee out of pocket. Shortly after booking, you’ll receive an email with a link to Prairieland Therapy's new client paperwork. This must be completed at least 24 hours in advance so I can verify your insurance. Before our first session, I’ll confirm what to expect—whether you owe a copay, have a deductible to meet, or are fully covered.

I worked with Josh every week for about a year and a half. Josh is an incredibly passionate person who is easy to open up to and is very understanding of your thoughts and opinions. I've never once felt judged by Josh. I trusted him from day one. I began talking to Josh when I felt unsettled due to starting a new job, moving to a new home, and having some difficulties with my new partner, whom I love. Josh was really helpful in validating my opinions and feelings when I was struggling to make sense of everything. I've had laughs with Josh, I've also shed some tears. With little time Josh really came to feel like a close friend. Someone I looked forward to sharing things with. I consider myself to be a very open and emotional person. I strive to be completely honest with myself about my feelings and opinions, but sometimes this makes me my own worst critic. Josh is great at helping you stay on track with small things, but he's also incredible at addressing real issues.
