Josie DeSoto, LAC

Psychotherapist
NJ
I work with adults who want to heal from the things that may be difficult to talk about, but that they are ready to unpack. Whether that be related to anxiety, depression, relationship/family dynamics, past/current trauma, or other life stressors, I aim to be a compassionate, listening ear. We can work together to process, find ways to cope and manage, and figure out what's going to help you heal from these challenges. The answers are within you- let's find them together. I've been described as someone that helps others feel comfortable, safe, and understood. My authenticity speaks for itself, and it's an honor when a client feels like they can fully be themselves with me. I'm genuine, empathetic, curious, and honest in how I show up for you. I'm the kind of clinician that will validate you, but keep it real with you too. I know that trying therapy can feel a little bit daunting, which is totally fair. When you feel ready to give it a chance, I'm here to earn your trust and learn how to best show up for you. You don't have to carry the weight of life's challenges on your own; I'm here to support you and help you take some of that load off your shoulders so it's less heavy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I chose to become a clinician because I know what it's like to want to be heard, supported, and understood while trying to go through life's challenges. Let's work together to create a space where you feel comfortable enough to be yourself, explore your concerns, and choose the path to healing that you want to take. My priority is to treat you with warmth, kindness, advocate for you, and accept you for who you are while encouraging you to grow.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work is grounded in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care. I aim to meet the needs of individuals from a wide range of cultural, racial, religious or spiritual, socioeconomic, neurodivergent, and sexual and gender identity backgrounds. I believe that each person’s experiences and identities shape how they move through the world, and therapy should honor and reflect that. My clinical style is flexible and adaptive—almost like a chameleon. I tailor my approach to fit each client’s unique needs, getting creative when necessary to support growth and healing. In my work, I integrate techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Contemporary Psychodynamic Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Polyvagal Theory.
