Psychotherapist
6834 E Genesee St, Fayetteville, NY
I work with teens (15+) and young adults who feel overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, or stuck in patterns they understand but can't seem to change. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, mood dysregulation, relationship conflict, family stress, or the lasting effects of growing up in environments that required them to stay alert, responsible, or emotionally guarded. My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and practical. I help clients understand how their nervous system learned to survive — and how those same survival strategies may now be getting in the way. Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, we work on building emotional regulation, clearer communication, and a stronger sense of internal safety. I integrate evidence-based methods including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and stabilization-focused trauma treatment, adapting the pace and approach to each client's developmental stage and readiness. Sessions are intentional — we slow down enough to create real safety while still moving toward meaningful change. Clients often describe working with me as steady, direct, and grounding. I believe insight matters, but lasting change happens when the nervous system feels supported, not pressured.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You should know that therapy with me is active, thoughtful, and paced with intention. I am not a passive listener, and I am not a quick fix provider. We will slow things down enough to understand what is actually happening beneath your reactions, while still working toward real change. My style is direct, calm, and collaborative. I ask questions, reflect patterns, and help you connect current struggles to how your nervous system learned to cope earlier in life. For teens, this often means helping them feel understood without being pressured or pathologized. For young adults, it often means untangling long standing family roles, people pleasing, or emotional shutdown. I work from a trauma informed, developmentally aware framework and integrate evidence based approaches such as EMDR and stabilization focused trauma work when appropriate. Sessions are structured but flexible. Some weeks we focus on regulation and skill building, other weeks on processing and insight. Progress in therapy does not come from forcing vulnerability or reliving experiences before you are ready. It comes from building safety, trust, and capacity over time. You can expect me to respect your pace while also being honest when something is getting in the way of growth. This work is most effective for clients who are willing to be curious about their patterns, show up consistently, and engage between sessions. If you are looking for depth, steadiness, and change that lasts, this approach tends to be a good fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first few sessions are focused on understanding what brings you in, how your symptoms show up day to day, and what has already been tried. We look at current stressors alongside relevant history, with attention to patterns rather than isolated events. For teens, this includes understanding school, family dynamics, and emotional regulation. For young adults, this often includes relationships, transitions, and long standing roles learned earlier in life. Once we have a shared understanding, sessions follow a steady structure. We check in on what has been coming up, track emotional and nervous system responses, and work intentionally with what feels most relevant that day. Some sessions focus on skill building and regulation. Others focus on deeper processing using trauma informed approaches such as EMDR when appropriate. I pace the work carefully. We do not rush into processing before there is enough stability and safety. Progress is measured not only by symptom relief, but by increased clarity, emotional flexibility, and the ability to respond rather than react. Sessions are conversational, grounded, and collaborative. You can expect clear guidance, reflection of patterns, and space to think and feel without being pushed or overwhelmed. Over time, the goal is for therapy to translate into real world change in how you handle stress, relationships, and decision making.
