“I am a mom of a teenage boy on the Spectrum. Ihave been trying to find someone that ny son could connect to, someone that could help him understand the challenges that he is facing as he growing up. The weekly meeting with Juan has been very beneficial to him, I saw a lot of improvement in his behavior. Things are finally moving in the right direction.”

Getting to know Juan Carlos Espinal

Juan Carlos Espinal, LMSW, is a bilingual therapist with over a decade of experience supporting children, adolescents, and young adults through emotional, behavioral, and identity-related challenges. He offers therapy in both English and Spanish and brings a warm, grounded, and collaborative approach to his work. Carlos helps clients navigate anxiety, emotional regulation, executive functioning struggles, family stress, and life transitions. He also works closely with caregivers and families to strengthen support systems and promote long-term growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapy style is direct, supportive, and developmentally informed. I work with individuals who are navigating emotional regulation, anxiety, identity development, relationship dynamics, and challenges with focus, motivation, or structure. Whether someone is building foundational coping skills or working through complex transitions, I tailor therapy to meet them where they are. I draw from evidence-based practices like Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), executive functioning coaching, and systems-informed approaches. I believe therapy should be collaborative and adaptable, never one-size-fits-all approach and grounded in respect for each person’s lived experience. You can expect a balance of honest feedback, practical tools, and steady encouragement, all offered within a space that is culturally responsive, affirming, and built for real progress inside and outside the therapy room.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know each other and identifying what you’d like to get out of therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your current challenges, strengths, and any relevant personal, relational, academic, or professional context that may shape your experience. From there, sessions are structured but adaptable. I often integrate talk therapy, skill-building, and values-based goal setting. Depending on your needs, this might include tools for emotional regulation, executive functioning, improving relationships, or navigating life transitions. You can expect a collaborative, judgment-free space where we check in on progress regularly and adjust our approach as needed. Therapy with me is always personalized, built to support growth, clarity, and a stronger sense of direction.
