Getting to know Juanita Amaya

A bit about me... I have been a licensed clinical social worker for many years and worked in diverse locations. I was born in Colombia, raised in New Jersey, and moved to California and recently relocated to New Mexico. I enjoy reading, hiking and other outdoor activities. I enjoy the companionship of my black lab and my two cats. My practice style is... My approach is tailored to suit the cultural and diverse needs of each client. I work alongside the client to help empower, encourage and develop new ways of reconnecting with their inner self and provide a safe space for healing. I work from a humanistic, non-judgmental perspective and believe the client has the strength within themselves to find peace and self-fulfillment. I also believe in the strong bond between humans and their animal companions and want to explore the relationship between you and your pet within the therapeutic process. My education and work experience... I graduated from Fordham University in New York City with my Master's Degree in Social Work. I have worked in mental health clinics and inpatient mental health hospitals. I have also worked in Adult Day Health Care centers and in senior centers. I have extensive experience in the medical field working with dialysis patients and their adjustment issues as these patients cope with life-changing health issues.
