Getting to know Judith Ofori-Akwaboah

Hi everyone! My name is Judith Ofori-Akwaboah. As a Ghanaian American woman and immigrant, I know firsthand how tough it can be to find a therapist who truly gets you—someone who understands your culture, your story, and the unspoken weight that comes with adjusting, belonging, and being “in between” worlds. In my space, you don’t have to translate yourself. You don’t have to shrink or over explain. You get to simply show up as you are. My work is grounded in empathy, cultural awareness, and genuine connection. Together, we’ll create a healing relationship built on trust and mutual respect. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, identity concerns, or complicated family dynamics, my goal is to help you feel grounded, empowered, and more at home within yourself. I'm looking forward to assisting you on your therapeutic Journey!

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is integrative and flexible—I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, and mindfulness practices. I tailor every session to fit your unique needs and lived experiences.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Reaching out for help can feel difficult, but you don’t have to walk through your journey alone. Whether working with children or adults, I utilize different approaches. With adults, I help unpack childhood experiences, explore identity layers, and understand the patterns shaping your present life. With children, I primarily use play therapy to build trust, uncover themes, and support them as they learn to navigate their emotions and social worlds.

I cannot recommend my therapist highly enough. From the very first session, I felt genuinely heard, respected, and supported. She created a safe, non-judgmental space where it’s easy to be open and honest, even about difficult topics. Her insight, compassion, and thoughtful guidance have helped me gain clarity, develop healthier coping tools, and make real, meaningful progress. What truly sets her apart is how attentive and personalized her approach is—I always feel like my sessions are tailored to me, not a one-size-fits-all method. Working with her has been incredibly valuable, and I’m deeply grateful for the impact she has had on my well-being.
Judith has been an exceptional therapist for my son. My son is excited to have therapy each week. Judith uses games & art to help my son express himself and learn about his emotions & thoughts. He even creates comic books about his day and told me that Judith said he can do this when he doesn’t feel like writing it all down.
Judith has a way of truly making you feel listened to. I feel safe in her care and recommend her to all my friends. I am thankful for a provider like her!!
I have a deep appreciation for the therapy I have received with Judith. She has been able to guide me through challenging moments and be a great sounding board for my experiences.
Miss Judith has been amazing with my child. My child struggles with various behavioral issues and she has been able to tackle them individually. She assessed each problem and found a course of action that tackled the root of the cause for each. She is a very understanding person to work with. She has made an impact on my child as well as myself. I highly recommend her services. I am so sad to see her go, but I am very appreciative of all that she has helped with. Wherever she goes, her services should be cherished because she has a way of connecting with parents and children. In this line of work, it’s very difficult to keep everyone appease and she has somewhat accomplished just that. I am going to miss her dearly and I am happy of getting the chance to know her for me and my child.
Very professional, down to earth provider. Highly recommend for young adults and teenagers. Couldn’t ask for a better therapist. She don’t tell you what you want to hear but what you needs to. She helped me through a lot for a year. She is extremely patient and understanding and flexible.
An incredible therapist. She’s patient , compassionate, and highly skilled. I always feel understood, supported, and empowered after each session. I’ve made real progress thanks to their guidance. Truly grateful!
