Getting to know Judith Waitley

I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) living on the Big Island of Hawaii and providing telehealth services to all the Hawaiian Islands. I earned my Master’s in Professional Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I truly believe that counseling is a partnership between the client and therapist and approach therapy from a person-centered perspective. I work with individuals and couples from 13 to 99 who are experiencing anxiety, trauma-related stressors, eating disorders, life transitions, and more. My approach My approach to therapy is eclectic, trauma-informed, and person-centered, as I truly believe mental health isn’t a one-size-fits-all service. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy provide the foundation for the work we will do together. We will focus on practical tools and real solutions to help you break down barriers and move forward in life. Your pace and unique needs are at the forefront of treatment. My focus Being a person-centered counselor has allowed me to work with people from all backgrounds, ages, and cultures—most of whom struggle with trauma, self-criticism, relationship challenges, eating disorders, and more. Many of my clients feel like they are “too much” or “never enough” and want to break free from patterns of self-doubt and emotional overwhelm. I help them build self-awareness, foster self-compassion, and develop practical skills to create lasting change. My communication style Clients often say my communication style is relaxed, creates a feeling of safety and openness, and feels “real.” I communicate in sessions the way I do in my everyday life: calm, honest, sometimes blunt, sometimes humorous, and genuinely interested in what you are saying. My journey to mental healthcare My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by both personal and professional experiences with mental health struggles, trauma, and self-worth.
