Hello! I am Dr. Julia Smith, a Professional Clinical Counselor licensed in California. With over 30 years of experience, I work with individuals aged 18 and older. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, self-development, relationship concerns, grief and loss, ADHD, and life changes. My approach I use a collaborative approach that incorporates cognitive-behavioral strategies and family systems within a psychodynamic orientation. Therapy involves working toward effective coping, resolution, and self-development by addressing patterns, emotions, thoughts, and actions for lasting change. My focus I specialize in helping adults with issues related to anxiety, mood, ADHD, relationship problems, self-development, and life transitions. My communication style I prioritize cultivating a trusting environment by integrating respect, empathy, genuine care, and collaboration into my communication. I am interactive and meet clients where they are, guiding the therapy process to align with their goals. My journey to mental healthcare At age 11, I unexpectedly knew I wanted to pursue psychology. Being a Clinical Counselor perfectly blends my passion for psychology with my value of relationships in well-being and growth. Along the way, I gained experience in education, earning both a Master's in Counseling and a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Counselor Education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. These degrees have deepened my knowledge and skills. While my work began from an inspired interest in psychology and education, I continue providing psychotherapy because I see its positive impact and appreciate all I have gained from this work.
