Julian Post, LICSW

Psychotherapist
875 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA
Hi there! I'm a social worker providing therapy to help people live as their happier, healthier, and more authentic selves. As the mixed-race child of a single mother who immigrated to the US to make a better life for her family, I want to carry on her mission to better the lives of others. My therapeutic approach emphasizes building relationships, learning new skills, creating structure, and using your unique strengths, interests, and experiences to build consistent momentum towards your goals. I specialize in working with fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community, men/male-identified folks, and young adults. I incorporate a variety of therapy modalities into my practice (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, trauma-informed principles of care, etc) to help people cope with the many stressors that life can bring and to heal from traumatic experiences. I believe in progress, not perfection, and people motivated to grow and heal by doing the work are always welcome in my practice!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Before selecting a framework or technique, I always want to understand your previous experiences with therapy to learn of any past approaches that have been helpful or unhelpful to you. I value your collaboration and feedback to determine where we want to go in therapy, and how we may get there. Your strengths, interests, and experiences play a vital role in how your therapy looks for you!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first few meetings, we'll focus on understanding your goals for therapy and on building the trust and rapport that are essential in the therapeutic relationship. We'll then work towards those goals within a session-structure that we develop together and with "therapy homework" to practice outside of sessions whatever skills and insights you gain while working together.
