Getting to know Julie Cohen

Hi, I’m Julie Cohen (she/her), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist I’m a therapist who believes that meaningful change begins with feeling truly seen and supported. I work with people navigating life’s big challenges—whether that’s anxiety, depression, panic attacks, grief and loss, or major life transitions. I also have a special focus on LGBTQ+ mental health, particularly with gay and lesbian clients who are seeking an affirming space to explore identity, relationships, and emotional well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and personalized. I draw from a blend of therapy models—like psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), existential, and strength-based therapy—depending on what fits best for you. Therapy with me is not one-size-fits-all. Together, we’ll figure out what’s working, what’s not, and how to help you move forward with more clarity and confidence.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Maybe you're navigating anxiety, disconnection, identity questions, or just craving a space where you don't have to explain who you are. As a queer-affirming therapist, I offer a space that honors your full self. Together, we’ll explore what’s showing up in your life with compassion, curiosity, and respect. I believe that self-awareness is a powerful catalyst for change—it opens the door to choices that are grounded in authenticity rather than guilt, shame, or fear. Asking for help is never easy, especially when past experiences haven’t felt safe or affirming. That’s why I center collaboration and emotional safety in our work. Whether we’re unpacking old wounds, navigating relationship dynamics, or just trying to feel more like you, we’ll move through it side by side—with thoughtfulness, a few tears, and maybe even a little humor.
