“Julie is very caring and supportive. I have struggled with therapy in the past and sometimes don't know what to talk about even though I know I need help. Julie is intuitive and gently asks the right questions and knows when we need to take a break from a hard topic. She has really helped me to think about what is going on, think through how I feel, why I am making the choices that I am, and how do I want these things to change or stay the same. She is never judgmental or pushy, but always encouraging to grow and improve. ”

“ I've been seeing Julie for two years now. She has been great to work with! From the deeply helpfulness from our sessions that I constantly jokingly fire her for knowing when to ask the right question. The questions that really get to the core of the problem. To the professional side and working with me and my changing schedules. I am glad that she became my therapist and all the progress we have made together! ”

Getting to know Julie Darter

Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Julie, and I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am here to meet you where you are, work with you on the things that brought you to this point, and explore what we can do to help it all feel better. I know that starting therapy can be scary, and I work hard to make this experience as comfortable and easy as possible. I want to assure you that this space is a no-judgment zone where anything can be talked about.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe that there is not a specific theory or method of therapy that works for everybody or even the same person all the time, and; therefore, tend to be very eclectic in modalities that I use. That being said, I work a lot with trauma-informed modalities, supportive, and person informed modalities, as well as CBT, DBT, and ACT. While it is never a good place to be when you find yourself looking for a therapist, I want you to be able to feel that this is a safe place. While I may not understand what your specific feelings are or what you have been through, I have had my own struggles with mental health and would like to help you through this difficult time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial session can be stressful due to the feelings you may be feeling about this and anxiety about meeting a new person, but we can make it through. After that, we will spend a lot of time talking, while I offer support, ask questions, provide alternative ways of dealing with life. All of this with caring and compassion, but also laughter from time to time when and if appropriate.

Julie has been there for me for almost 3 years now. Looking back I’m able to see how much better I feel and how much I’ve grown as a person. Without Julie I wouldn’t be where I am today. ????
Julie is professional, empathetic, and honest with her clients. She is reliable and makes me feel truly supported! I have been seeing her for around 6 years and am so lucky that I have a therapist that I have been able to trust all these years!
