IMPORTANT NOTE: Please allow at least 2 business days before your appointment for insurance verification. This does not include weekends. I always consider what I would want in a therapist for myself, and that perspective helps me be a better therapist for my clients. I am very interactive, upfront, and open-minded, but I will also challenge you to do better and be better—for yourself. Taking the first step to enter therapy is often the hardest part. I’ve been there myself. I have struggled with depression and anxiety most of my life and have managed chronic pain for the past 10 years. We all face challenges, but it makes a difference when we can use our experiences to help others live more fulfilling lives. I am a dedicated Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Medaille University. I have experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and HIV+ populations. My background includes supporting clients with mental health and chemical dependency/dual diagnosis issues in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My therapeutic approach blends Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Raised in a diverse community, I learned the values of acceptance, diversity, and harmony early on. Growing up as a Latina/German was challenging, especially when the Latino community discriminated against me for not speaking the language. These experiences have made cultural sensitivity a vital part of both my life and my practice. Late Fee Policy: If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled session or do not show up, a $50 late fee will be charged immediately via credit card. Discharge Policy: Two consecutive late cancellations (within 24 hours) or no-shows will result in discharge due to lack of engagement. Once therapy begins, all scheduling reminders and billing will be managed through my private practice affiliate, Alma.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize a mixture of the following therapies: SFBT (Solution Focused Brief Therapy), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and am well versed in the following areas: depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues, polygamy, couples/family counseling, assertive communication skills, , domestic violence, veterans affairs, crisis intervention, and substance use. I also have a background in Human Resources and have found that to be very helpful to my clients experiencing issues at work, looking for new jobs, discussing benefits and health insurance, and understanding their overall rights as an employee. You can expect to be challenged by me to reframe your current thought patterns, receive homework assignments that organically come about through our discussions, and be held accountable for doing the reflective work on your own outside of session.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The intake process consists of gathering information surrounding the client's demographics, what they are primarily dealing with, and any residual issues that may be occurring. Progress is determined by a collaborative look at the client's feelings toward their therapy and an overall look at the work that has already been done. Goals will be reviewed and either continued or finalized. Homework is a large part of my therapeutic process, as it helps the client identify pieces of themselves that they may not otherwise have looked at.
