Julie Skelton, LCSW

Psychotherapist
AZ
Hi there, I'm Julie! Does regular therapy sound intimidating, or maybe you have done it before and felt caught up in circles? My years as a play therapist have taught me new, engaging ways to help overcome those hurdles. I specialize in trauma and helping to recreate your life after domestic violence, divorce, and loss. I think outside the box and help with new ideas. My focus I enjoy working with trauma and abuse survivors and families who are struggling. I like to help people understand the dynamics of the past to change the dynamics in the future and to build the life they desire. I enjoy working with complicated families because, as clients understand why things are happening and shift dynamics, miracles occur. My approach I use different approaches in my work based on what each person needs. I enjoy the Adlerian approach of helping people increase their connection and meaning in life. I include art and sand tray techniques to help process memories and thoughts better. I use Accelerated Resolution Therapy to help overcome large traumas or anxieties. My communication style I am straightforward and raw in my communication. My earlier appointments tend to be more polite, and my later appointments tend to get more of the real me - curse words and my sense of humor. I am always honest. With that, I also am very genuine. I tend to honestly care about my clients and go above and beyond to help them. My journey to mental healthcare I come from a family with mental illness and abuse. When I had my kids, I was determined that it would be different. My kids all had their own struggles that forced me to think outside the box to get them the help they needed to succeed. After they grew up, we fostered and adopted teens, and I returned to school to learn how to help others as well. My goals for you How will you know therapy is making a difference? What will have changed in your life? That is the guiding question we use to design your treatment goal together.
