Sometimes anxiety, grief, or old family pain lingers no matter how well we learn to cope. Understanding where it comes from can open the way to change. Maybe it’s a loss you haven’t moved past, a relationship pattern that keeps repeating, a career or life change that’s shaken your sense of who you are, or the shadow of a difficult childhood. I work with adults and teens who want to understand what’s going on underneath, not just manage symptoms. I see clients in person in the Chicago Loop and by video anywhere in Illinois. I’m in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, BCBS Community Health Plans Medicaid, and Aetna PPO, HMO, and POS. I specialize in working with people carrying the lingering effects of childhood trauma, loss, and difficult family dynamics, as well as those searching for meaning, purpose, or joy, often after life-altering experiences such as grief, divorce, infidelity, parenthood, or spiritual and existential questions.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At the heart of my approach is free association — freely speaking whatever comes to mind. While this demands considerable courage and vulnerability, many come to find it liberating, enjoyable, and even exciting, as they happen upon new aspects of themselves, unexpected shifts in perspective, buried emotions and desires, and a deeper comfort in being as they are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our struggles often stem from parts of ourselves we do not fully understand. I support clients in undertaking an open and curious inquiry into the deeper layers of their experience in ways that foster an organic process of self-discovery, acceptance, and change. To this end, I invite a curiosity about unconscious material, such as dreams, fantasies, allusions, and fleeting thoughts, as well as the patterns and impressions woven throughout life and lineage. Exploration may extend across all aspects and times of life. My clinical work is grounded in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy. I completed clinical fellowships in psychoanalytic therapy at Depth Counseling and continue training at the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Yale University and master's degree in Clinical Counseling and Psychotherapy at the Institute for Clinical Social Work. I work with adults and adolescents in-person in Chicago and virtually across Illinois. If you are interested in pursuing this kind of work together, I’d be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have.
