“For the stressed and burnt out adults who are holding it together by a thread and starting to wonder if something deeper is going on, I highly recommend Kaitlyn. She works with trauma, relationships, and burnout - and offers psychological testing for those who want a clearer picture of what's actually driving the patterns. Sometimes the most helpful thing isn't just more therapy - it's finally understanding why you work the way you do. Psychological testing can be the missing piece that makes everything else click, and having a clinician who can both test and treat means you're not starting over every time you need a different kind of support. If you're exhausted, struggling in your relationships, and ready to get to the bottom of it, Kaitlyn brings both the diagnostic depth and the therapeutic skill to actually help you get there.”

Getting to know Dr. Kaitlyn Card

I’m Dr. Katie Card, a licensed clinical psychologist and the founder of Dynamic Reflections. I work with children, adolescents, adults, and couples who are ready for a space where they do not have to hold everything together quite so tightly. Many people arrive in therapy after spending a long time being the capable one: managing work, family, relationships, responsibilities, and everyone else’s needs while quietly feeling anxious, disconnected, exhausted, overwhelmed, or unlike themselves. Others come in during a moment of transition, loss, conflict, or uncertainty and simply know that the ways they have been coping are no longer enough. You do not need to have a perfect explanation for why you are here. You do not need to arrive with the right words or a neatly organized story. We can begin with what feels hardest right now. In our work together, I pay attention not only to what is happening, but to how it feels to carry it. We may explore the experiences and relationships that shaped you, the patterns that once helped you survive, and the ways those same patterns may now be keeping you stuck. Therapy is not about deciding that something is wrong with you. It is about making sense of your life with more compassion, clarity, and choice. I bring warmth, honesty, curiosity, and practical support into the room. There is space to talk about the big things (trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, relationship pain, burnout, identity, or feeling lost) as well as the quieter things that build up over time: resentment, shame, loneliness, difficulty resting, feeling unseen, or wondering why life feels harder than it seems to for everyone else. My hope is that you leave therapy feeling more connected to yourself, more able to trust your own experience, and less alone in the parts of life that have felt difficult to carry.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is warm, relational, direct, and collaborative. I want you to feel that you can walk into the room exactly as you are, whether you are articulate and prepared, unsure where to begin, frustrated, tearful, guarded, exhausted, or trying very hard not to cry. You do not need to perform being “okay” with me. I listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and make room for the parts of your experience that may not have felt safe, easy, or important enough to say out loud elsewhere. I also believe therapy should be active and useful. While I will not rush you or push you to share more than you are ready to hold, I may gently challenge patterns, help you name what is happening beneath the surface, and invite you to consider new ways of responding to yourself and others. My approach draws from psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, somatic approaches, and practical skills-building. In everyday language, that means we may look at how your past has shaped the ways you protect yourself, connect with others, manage emotions, or make meaning of your experiences. We will also work with what is happening now: boundaries, communication, nervous-system regulation, relationships, parenting, work stress, grief, and the daily realities of being human. Some sessions may feel reflective and spacious. Others may be focused, practical, and grounded in what you need to get through the week. Often, it is both. My goal is not simply to help you cope with a life that does not fit; it is to help you understand yourself more fully and build a life that feels more aligned, connected, and sustainable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first appointment is a conversation, not an audition and not a test. It is a chance for us to begin getting to know one another and to understand what has brought you in at this point in your life. We will talk about what feels difficult right now, what you have already tried, the relationships and experiences that matter to your story, and what you hope might feel different through therapy. You are not expected to tell your entire life story in one sitting. Some people come in ready to talk; others need time to decide whether the space feels safe enough to be honest. Both are completely okay. I will meet you where you are, and we will build the work together over time. As therapy continues, our sessions are usually conversation-based, but they are more than a place to vent. We may slow down a recent interaction that stayed with you, notice a familiar pattern as it unfolds, explore the emotions beneath your reactions, or identify practical steps that would help you feel more grounded between sessions. Depending on your needs, our work may include emotional processing, coping skills, communication tools, values clarification, boundary work, body-based regulation, or between-session practices that help carry the work into daily life. I check in regularly about how therapy is feeling and whether our focus continues to fit your needs. Your goals may become clearer, deepen, or change as you begin to understand yourself differently. You remain an active part of the process throughout. For psychological assessment, the process is individualized and typically includes an initial consultation, a detailed clinical interview, selected testing measures, review of relevant records when available, and a feedback appointment. The purpose is not simply to give you a label; it is to provide a clearer understanding of your strengths, needs, and the support that may be most helpful moving forward.
