Getting to know Kandace Barkham

I am a licensed LCSW/LCADCA in Kentucky with 6 years of clinical experience and over 5 years working with diverse populations. I earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville and completed my Master's in Social Work at the University of Louisville's Kent School of Social Work. I also attended Bellarmine University with a concentration in Psychology. I have experience helping clients heal from stress, anxiety, substance abuse, childhood and lifetime trauma, PTSD, borderline personality disorder, depression, self-esteem issues, family conflict, sexual dysfunction, professional career stress, and anger management. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment or shame. Authenticity and self-acceptance are superpowers that allow you to accomplish amazing things. I specialize in trauma, addiction, and mental health, focusing on skill-building, self-compassion, and trauma-informed care. I am sex-positive and inclusive in all sessions. Taking steps toward a better life can be scary and hard. We can be afraid and do hard things at the same time. I am here to support you through that process and help you embrace how beautiful life can be. I am open to discussing sliding scale options for those who wish to pursue private pay.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our first session, we will build rapport and I will take a brief history. We will discuss what you would like to accomplish in therapy and identify goals for treatment. I often ask about your experience with previous therapists to allow the client to identify what was helpful or useful for them. I want clients to feel empowered and supported through therapy. I hope that they walk away from sessions feeling prepared to lean into personal growth and capable of showing themselves compassion as they grow and heal.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
