Kara Lampasone, MSW

Psychotherapist
MD
With over 25 years of experience in the federal government, including work with the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the ICE Health Service Corps, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my therapy practice. Basically, I've spent decades working with acronyms and paperwork, so now I'm here to focus on people instead. As a retired Veteran of the United States Air Force and the U.S. Public Health Service, I have firsthand knowledge of the complexities faced by those who have served in the military, as well as those transitioning to civilian life. This personal experience fuels my dedication to helping fellow Veterans and service members find stability, purpose, and healing during times of change. I've been through it myself, so I get it—transitioning can sometimes feel like jumping out of a plane without checking your parachute first. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. I am clinically licensed to practice in both Maryland and North Carolina, allowing me to support clients in multiple regions. Throughout my professional journey, I have continuously pursued advanced training to stay informed of best practices in mental health care. Translation: I'm basically a lifelong student with a fancy collection of certificates. I specialize in helping clients overcome anxiety and trauma through evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR). These proven methods empower individuals to process difficult experiences, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and achieve a greater sense of well-being. My therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, collaboration, and respect for each client's unique journey.
