Kara Werner, LPC/MHSP

Psychotherapist
701 Professional Plaza Dr, Ste 1, Greeneville, TN
My name is Kara Werner, and I am an LPC-MHSP licensed in Tennessee. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from East Tennessee State University. I take an eclectic approach to therapy, practicing in a client-centered way and meeting clients where they are. I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation and ultimate predictor of how effective therapy will be. I work diligently to build rapport with my clients. I can support you with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, and grief. I am comfortable working with individuals ages 16 and up and can provide couples and family therapy if that need arises. As a counselor, I don't pretend to have everything together, but I will walk alongside you during your time of need-to support, cheer you on, challenge you, comfort you, and listen to you. My therapeutic approaches include EMDR therapy (Basic Trained and working toward Certification), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Narrative Therapy. I consider myself skilled in helping clients identify where they need better boundaries and in addressing challenges around implementing those necessary boundaries. If you have experienced negative life events that have impacted your self-worth, increased symptoms that make day-to-day functioning difficult, or simply need support, please consider booking an appointment.

What should a new client know about working with you?

*Please fill out all paperwork at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. WE REQUIRE A CARD ON FILE for all clients in the event of late cancellation or no show. Failure to complete paperwork within the requested time frame WILL result in a rescheduled appointment.* I will offer my client unconditional affirmation and support for whatever they are going through. I am here to listen to them and trust their experience. I am EMDR Basic Trained and am completing Certification in EMDR. I consider myself a gentle practitioner and will help you work through any historic traumas, no matter how big or small they seem.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

For every client at Loving Counseling, we begin with an intake to gather necessary information about our client's history. This can include everything from family dynamics (current and past), family history of mental illness, current and historic stressors, major life events, current symptoms, family history of suicidality, and more. After the intake, the first session with clients we begin treatment planning and go from there to determine client readiness to tackle issues.
