Hi there, I'm Karen! You have taken the first step towards your new journey. It takes courage to reach out for support and admit you need help. My name is Karen Charles, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. In addition to my state licensure, I have earned credentials as a Certified Master Addiction Counselor in Georgia. I graduated from Thomas University in 2009 with a Master's in Rehabilitation Counseling and in 2004 with a Bachelor's in Social Work. I have 17 years of experience working in a variety of settings, including community-based outpatient, female juvenile correctional facility, private practice, and male correctional facility. I am a member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia. My approach I am compassionate about using CBT with my clients because change starts with your thoughts, which reflect how one feels and acts. My focus I am very passionate about helping you reach your full potential. I believe in holistic wellness and treating the whole person. Together, we can work through life challenges with your commitment on your path to recovery. I also use an eclectic treatment modality to help my clients navigate life's difficulties. My communication style I create a safe space for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings about their current stressors. Providing a safe environment is vital to building a strong therapeutic rapport. My journey to mental healthcare When I was a teenager, I experienced childhood trauma that negatively impacted my life in many ways. A counselor was the first person I ever shared my past experiences with, and that changed my life for the better. At that moment, I discovered I wanted to make a difference in others' lives by helping them with their internal struggles that often go unseen. I love being able to help others improve their lives.
