Hi I am Karen! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with nearly two decades of experience helping individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families navigate some of life's most challenging moments. While my career has included extensive work with trauma, foster care, abuse, neglect, and major life transitions, I have a particular passion for supporting individuals and couples who are struggling in their relationships and want to create healthier, more fulfilling connections. I work with individuals who may find themselves repeating unhealthy relationship patterns, struggling with communication, experiencing difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling anxious, disconnected, or uncertain in their relationships. I also support couples who are experiencing conflict, frequent misunderstandings, emotional distance, trust concerns, or difficulty communicating their needs. Whether you are working through a specific relationship challenge or trying to understand patterns that continue to show up in your relationships, therapy can provide a safe space to gain insight and develop new skills. My approach is compassionate, down-to-earth, and solution-focused. I believe that meaningful change begins with feeling emotionally safe, heard, and understood. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and your relationships while developing practical tools for communication, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, boundaries, and connection. I believe relationships can be strengthened when individuals feel empowered to understand their needs, communicate effectively, and create healthier patterns. My hope is that through our work together, you will gain greater self-awareness, confidence, and practical tools to help you build healthier relationships with yourself and others.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially when you are struggling in a relationship or trying to make sense of patterns that have been difficult to change. My goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment where you can be honest about what you're experiencing and feel comfortable exploring the challenges that brought you to therapy. Whether you are coming to therapy individually or with your partner, I will work to understand your unique experiences, relationship dynamics, and goals. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We will work together to identify the patterns that may be contributing to your challenges and develop practical strategies that you can apply in your everyday life. You can expect our work to be collaborative and focused on helping you gain insight while also creating meaningful, sustainable change. Depending on your needs, we may focus on communication, conflict resolution, boundaries, emotional connection, trust, self-esteem, attachment patterns, or navigating difficult life transitions. My goal is not to take sides or place blame. Instead, I strive to help individuals and couples better understand themselves and one another, communicate more effectively, and develop healthier ways of relating. Therapy is a process, and I will meet you where you are while helping you move toward the relationships and life you want.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is an opportunity for me to learn more about you, your current concerns, your relationship history, and what you hope to accomplish through therapy. If you are attending as a couple, I will also work to understand each partner's perspective and the patterns that may be contributing to the challenges in your relationship. Together, we will identify your primary goals and develop a treatment approach that fits your individual or relationship needs. Sessions may include exploring past experiences and relationship patterns, identifying triggers, improving communication, practicing conflict-resolution skills, strengthening emotional connection, and learning how to express needs and boundaries in healthier ways. As therapy progresses, we will regularly assess your progress and adjust our work as needed. I believe therapy should provide both insight and practical tools, so my goal is for you to leave sessions with a better understanding of yourself and your relationships, as well as strategies you can use between sessions. Whether you are working through ongoing relationship conflict, struggling with communication, experiencing disconnection from your partner, or navigating personal challenges that are affecting your relationships, we will work together at a pace that feels supportive while keeping your goals at the center of the process.
