What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe the most important aspect of counseling is the relationship between the client and the counselor. I strive to provide an open, friendly environment that is non-judgmental, confidential, compassionate, and caring while also maintaining ethical boundaries and legal requirements. Person-Centered counseling is the framework for an eclectic approach to counseling draws on a variety of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Counseling. I have my favorite interventions, of course, but also enjoy tailoring interventions that are specific to my client's needs and goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical initial session includes getting to know you and what you to seek therapy. I use standard screening forms to identify and measure significant problems. You should leave the first session feeling listened to and with an initial treatment plan that addresses your goals for treatment. The treatment plan is a "living document" that is evaluated and refined throughout our time working together to ensure that progress is made on achieving your initial goals and new issues addressed as they arise.
