Karen Steeb, Ed.S., LPC, is an experienced Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years of clinical experience providing compassionate, trauma-informed therapy to teens, adults, and families. She specializes in helping clients navigate trauma and PTSD, anxiety, attachment wounds, emotional regulation challenges, relationship difficulties, stress and burnout, and life transitions. Karen believes that every behavior has a story. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, she helps clients understand how past experiences, relationships, and patterns of coping may be influencing how they feel, respond, and relate to others today. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in curiosity rather than judgment. Karen uses an integrative approach that includes EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, somatic techniques, mindfulness, CBT, and other evidence-based approaches. When appropriate, she also incorporates play therapy, Sandplay, and creative approaches to help clients explore and process experiences in ways that feel natural and accessible. Karen especially enjoys working with teens and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, attachment and relationship challenges, self-worth concerns, and major life transitions. She also works with families, particularly when trauma, attachment, and emotional regulation are affecting family relationships and connection. Whether you're beginning therapy for the first time or returning after previous counseling, Karen provides a supportive space to better understand yourself, develop greater emotional regulation and resilience, and create meaningful change. She offers in-person therapy at Turn the Page Health & Wellness on Daniel Island and virtual therapy throughout South Carolina.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe every behavior has a story, and therapy is a place where we can become curious about that story without judgment. When we work together, I’ll take time to understand not only what you’re struggling with today, but also the experiences, relationships, and patterns that may have shaped how you learned to cope, adapt, and respond. My approach is warm, collaborative, and individualized. I believe therapy should meet you where you are, so we’ll work at a pace that feels safe and use approaches that fit your needs, strengths, and goals. Depending on what is most helpful, our work may include EMDR, attachment-focused therapy, somatic approaches, mindfulness, and other evidence-based or creative techniques. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard and understood while helping you develop greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, resilience, and practical tools you can carry into everyday life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first sessions are focused on getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and identifying what you hope will be different as a result of our work together. We’ll explore your current concerns as well as relevant experiences, relationships, and patterns that may be contributing to how you’re feeling today. From there, we’ll develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs, strengths, and goals. Sessions are collaborative and tailored to you. Depending on what is most helpful, our work may include conversation, EMDR, attachment-focused or somatic approaches, mindfulness, and practical strategies for emotional regulation and coping. When working with children, teens, or families, I may also incorporate play therapy, Sandplay, or creative approaches when appropriate. We’ll work at a pace that feels safe and regularly check in about what is helping and where you may be feeling stuck. As therapy progresses, we’ll continue building on your strengths while helping you better understand the connection between past experiences and present-day patterns. My goal is for you to feel actively involved in the process and to develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and tools that support meaningful change beyond the therapy room.
