“Karin's been great - she's very understanding, incredibly empathetic, intuitive, and has a great memory for things I've told her weeks or months ago. She's not necessarily "fun," which I've had with past therapists (not much in the way of jokes, personal anecdotes, or camaraderie), but I feel that we're building a great working relationship and I'm finally getting the help I need, so that's a perfect compromise to me.”

Getting to know Karin Booher

Are you feeling stressed out, zoned out, or off-balance? Do you feel like you're drowning under the weight of responsibilities while others seem to be thriving? Have you been using social media, toxic relationships, or substances to numb or distract yourself from the discomfort? I'd love to help you find your footing and feel more like yourself again. Most of the clients I work with have a lot more in common than they realize. They are struggling... but they believe they SHOULD be able to manage everything! They believe they are somehow flawed or weaker than others. I want you to know it’s okay to be struggling. Prolonged stress and trauma from things like the Covid pandemic, social and political unrest, racism, homophobia, and bullying can greatly impact our mental and physical health. Anxiety, depression, or trauma symptoms may be showing up as a way to say, “Hey, I’m not okay right now. I need to talk about this.” I am here to listen and help you navigate tough situations like these. I have a background in both mental health and medical social work, holding a Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient clinics, hospitals, community agencies, and addiction centers. My specialties are grief and loss, mood disorders, and issues facing the LGBTQ+ community. I have worked in this field for over twenty years, and I am more passionate than ever about helping others. I look forward to meeting you soon!

What should a new client know about working with you?

Once we meet and see whether it's a good fit, we will start to create treatment goals. I hope you will leave your sessions feeling a little lighter, like you can manage your life without fear of falling apart. Some days we might have a breakthrough, whereas other days the effects may be more subtle. Processing your feelings takes some getting used to, but eventually you wonder how you kept things bottled up for so long! I will also give you homework, reading recommendations, or helpful resources at the end of some sessions. You may also be asked to complete standardized measures, such as the GAD-7, to gauge your progress.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Karen is very thoughtful. I really appreciate how she remembers things from past sessions and follows up on them. I feel supported during this time and feel Karen gives great advice to help improve my life. She's also piqued my interest in exploring other areas of my life I hadn't considered diving into.
Karin is such an amazing therapist. She really knows how to help people feel validated and supported. She can also be very inquisitive and offer really good guidance once understanding a situation or person more. I have already recommended Karin to other people just because of how warm she comes off in sessions. She truly has the heart and desire of a therapist. What a wonderful and beautiful soul she is!
