Karina Chandler Ziegler is a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Arizona At times in our life, events culminate and come together to cause distress and less than tolerable pain or discomfort and in our lives and in the lives around us. There is hope! Individuals, couples, families, and other intimate relationships go through changes and struggles all the time. You don't have to go at it alone. Let a relationship expert help you out. I'm not an expert in your relationships, you are. However, I have expert knowledge and skills to share with you, so that you can attend to your most important needs. The needs of yourself and those for whom you care. This can be arranged in both brief and longer term intervention approaches. You set the course for your own treatment. After all, you're the expert of your care! I specialize in relationships, trauma, addiction within family systems, and multi-member family therapy. I can see multiple members from couples and families, in various forms, all at the same time. For example, I may see members of a couple individually and together. I can treat parents separately from children or minors. I can also treat the entire family together, to work through a major conflict. Perhaps even in a short duration of time! When treating individuals, I always consider family elements. Even if they aren't present in therapy. I will also assist in gently recruiting desired family members into therapy, if this is needed. I am very community-connected and will most definitely provide you with all the relevant, and often free, resources. Contact me for more details.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Faith and or spirituality are important elements of the therapeutic process and recovery. Our specific beliefs do not need to be exactly the same though. I am open-minded and welcoming of all viewpoints. I am a narrative therapist. Meaning, I focus on speaking your language and on the narrative of your life. The process of therapeutic change involves restructuring your problem-saturated narrative into one that is preferred. Then, living into your preferred narrative.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I typically start with a brief phone screening to determine presenting needs to ensure I can meet them while answering any questions positioned to me, by the proposed client. Then, we schedule our first session. In the first session, I engage the client, couple, or family in an assessment process designed to determine the presenting issues, preferred timeline for resolution, potential outside factors, and preferred therapeutic approach. Then, I gather information on the associated relationships with the individual(s) presenting in the therapeutic assessment. I gauge relationship dynamics, brief family history, and identify the problematic relationship patterns. Then, I discuss with the client(s) to determine a preferred treatment plan that is individualized and that will maximize results in the timeline outlined. Lastly, we discuss treatment recommendations while ensuring agreement on all elements and aspects to ensure collaboration and likelihood of achieving desired results.
