Getting to know Karl Saffran

People often come to see me after realizing that something has shifted: life isn't as meaningful as it once was, jobs or relationships aren't as fulfilling, or there's a general sense that things could be better. Sometimes this can be traced back to a specific event, either recent or from childhood. Other times, the cause of the suffering is inexplicable. It's often tempting to seek a quick fix, but true healing and growth take time. I move slowly at first, building a foundational relationship upon which our work can grow. While never shying away from difficult subjects, I occasionally use humor to ease the conversation. Therapy isn't easy, but it shouldn't be harder than it needs to be. I hold a Master’s in Counseling and have trained at the Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW), which informs my thoughtful and compassionate approach.

What should a new client know about working with you?

All humans need connection and failures to connect, either as children or adults, are often the cause of our problems. I am deeply and truly interested in the inner lives of everyone I work with and strongly believe that true empathic connection, slowly grown and carefully tended, can be the source of repair and rebuilding.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As a practical matter, our work together be most effective when done on a regular, routine basis. I see patients either weekly or multiple times per week for set standing appointments.
