Hello! My name is Karla and I have been working as a therapist for over 15 years. Life is filled with situations that we experience which are overwhelming and sometimes too much to handle. With my help I believe each person can learn more about themselves and grow to be successful. ? I am a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist and Substance Abuse Counselor. I am also trained in EMDR and specialize in trauma work. I take a person-centered approach, and think that with the combination of these skills, I can offer someone a treatment modality that is not typically offered. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a form of therapy that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and has demonstrated effectiveness for trauma. ? Creative Arts Therapy is a unique method of therapy that helps individuals express themselves in a different way. It incorporates traditional talk therapy, but adds the elements of art and writing to help a person connect better to themselves and others. My goal is to help support you in adjusting to and making changes in your life. I am Certified in Perinatal Mental Health which includes postpartum depression, anxiety, parenting and birth trauma, along with many other things. Are you a new or future mom or dad having struggles adjusting? Up to 1 in 7 women and 1 in 10 men struggle with postpartum depression. I’d love to support and work with you through this time, you are not alone. I have significant experience working with people struggling with a substance use disorder, and those affected by this disease. With my expertise, I can help support you in this area as well.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I like to think I’m honest, straight forward and direct, with some humor and a lot of empathy. Im here to support you but also help guide and direct us toward meeting your goals.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide art therapy, and EMDR therapy if we decide that is the best approach. I do full hour sessions and am adaptable and flexible with my approach to what you prefer.
