Psychotherapist

Welcome! If you are overwhelmed from struggling with your feelings, going through a challenging transition, or carrying the weight of your past, I hope that you will consider allowing me to join you on your path to a more balanced life. Starting therapy may be exciting or intimidating-wherever you fall on that spectrum, my goal is to make therapy as accessible and beneficial as possible. I hold a Master's in Counseling from San Francisco State University and a Bachelor's degree from Kenyon College. Each of us must find a way to balance our own needs in the context of our relationships with others and our cultural values. I aim to assist clients in navigating this balance with authenticity, creativity, and humor. In practice, this may mean experimenting with new patterns, new kinds of movement, and new ways of emotional expression. Whatever possibilities open before us in therapy, we embark on together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My hope for clients is to use therapy like a laboratory: a space that is nonjudgmental, exploratory, and experimental. I incorporate movement and other somatic techniques into my practice so that clients can experience effective healing rather than repetitive cycles of verbally describing their past or their behavior patterns. While I have experience working with clients with a range of mental health concerns, I am particularly focused on clients with anxiety disorders and/or trauma, particularly complex trauma and attachment issues.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In initial sessions, I typically focus on getting a more complete picture of you and your goals for treatment. If you feel we're a good match, then we'll start tackling whatever brought you to therapy at a pace that works for you. There's no true "normal" or average amount of time that we'll spend working together, but many clients are able to see progress with their most distressing issues within several weeks or a few months. For those who remain in therapy longer, often we move from acute mental health issues such as panic attacks or major depressive episodes onto broader themes like building healthy relationships and finding meaning in life.
