It can be difficult to admit that life is hard, but all too often the pressures of the modern world cause anxiety to spiral to a place where it feels overwhelming and unmanageable. We worry about performance at work, only to come home to the same feelings of uncertainty with friends and family. We want to feel close to others but end up spending so much time second-guessing our choices and pushing for perfection that we struggle to really connect. We may want to slow down, but how can we when the world is moving so fast? Mindfulness-based counseling offers real tools that can help us be more aware, focused, and effectively compassionate. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College and a Bachelor's degree from Whitman College, which have equipped me to support individuals navigating these challenges with empathy and skill.

Getting to know Kate Ramstedt

It can be difficult to admit that life is hard, but all too often the pressures of the modern world cause anxiety to spiral to a place where it feels overwhelming and unmanageable. We worry about performance at work, only to come home to the same feelings of uncertainty with friends and family. We want to feel close to others but end up spending so much time second-guessing our choices and pushing for perfection that we struggle to really connect. We may want to slow down, but how can we when the world is moving so fast? Mindfulness-based counseling offers real tools that can help us be more aware, focused, and effectively compassionate. What should a new client know about working with you?

My Approach Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based (focused awareness of the present moment without judgment), values-oriented behavioral therapy. ACT (pronounced as the word "act") guides us towards creating a rich, full and meaningful life, while effectively holding the pain and stress inherent in being human. Through mindfulness skills, ACT allows us to better navigate painful thoughts and feelings so we can avoid getting stuck. ACT additionally helps us in clarifying what is truly important and meaningful and takes this knowledge to motivate value driven behavior. I have a special interest in working with clients who identify as perfectionists and/or introverts. There is a tremendous amount of cultural pressure for perfection. It's easy to think that perfection will bring us deeper connections with others, but we often end up feeling more alone in this pursuit. When we give ourselves permission to be imperfect, we generally end up feeling closer to our friends and loved ones. Likewise, our cultural focus on extroversion can make it difficult to live as an introvert. Developing an appreciation for listening and being can help us affirm our value as introverts.

I'm "in network" with Premera and will submit a claim on your behalf. You will be responsible for any deductible and copays at the time of the appointment. If you are covered under a different carrier, I will collect my full fee ($175) on the day of the appointment. You will later be reimbursed at the “out of network” reimbursement rate. I’m happy to provide a billing statement (called a “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance. Please contact your carrier for more information on coverage.
