Getting to know Katelyn Mccann

My goal as a therapist is to provide a warm, supportive space where you can explore your experiences, gain insight, and create meaningful change. I meet each person where they are and work together to identify strengths and uncover new possibilities for growth. Using evidence-based techniques, I help clients improve emotional regulation, increase distress tolerance, and develop healthier coping strategies. Above all, I strive to ensure that every person I work with feels genuinely heard, understood, and empowered to move toward the life they want to live. What should a new client know about working with you?

When working with me, you can expect a warm, supportive, and honest space. I believe therapy works best when you feel both safe and gently challenged. My goal is to help you understand the patterns behind your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so we can create meaningful and lasting change. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT and DBT-informed skills, focusing on building emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier coping strategies. At the same time, I value collaboration. You are the expert on your life. I’m here to guide, offer perspective, and help you develop tools that feel practical and sustainable outside of session. Some sessions may focus on processing difficult experiences, while others may be more skill-based and action-oriented. We will move at a pace that feels right for you, balancing insight with forward momentum. My hope is that over time, you leave therapy feeling more confident, more self-aware, and more equipped to navigate life’s challenges.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, we focus on getting to know you. I’ll ask questions about what’s bringing you to therapy, your history, current stressors, relationships, and any patterns you’ve noticed in your thoughts or behaviors. This helps us build a clear understanding of your goals and create a treatment plan that feels aligned with what you want to work on. From there, sessions typically begin with a brief check-in about your week, followed by diving deeper into a specific situation, emotion, or challenge you’re facing. Depending on your needs, we may process experiences, identify unhelpful thought patterns, or practice concrete skills to improve emotional regulation and coping. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT and DBT-informed strategies, so sessions often include practical tools you can apply outside of therapy. At the same time, I believe meaningful change also comes from insight, self-reflection, and building awareness of deeper patterns. Throughout the process, therapy is collaborative. We’ll regularly revisit your goals and adjust our focus as you grow. My aim is to help you not only feel supported in session, but empowered between sessions as well.
