What should a new client know about working with you?

In counseling sessions, I utilize a client-centered approach, allowing treatment to be individualized to each person's needs. I have clients focus on their strengths to improve their functioning. I teach clients techniques from Cognitive-behavioral, Dialectical-behavioral, and systemic approaches to build a toolbox of coping skills for the client. Clients will be given homework assignments to complete outside of sessions and that may be physical activities, worksheets, or some reading.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients can expect the counseling relationship to be collaborative, we will create a treatment plan based on the client's strengths and interests, as well as my professional suggestions. The sessions will be semi-structured as I use open-ended questions to explore concerns and engage in active listening. I also provide psychoeducation on diagnoses and interventions for the client to utilize on their own, outside of session. These interventions are taught and practiced in each session and assigned as homework to practice outside of the session. These homework assignments are reviewed in the following session to identify their benefits and challenges.
