Getting to know Katharine Hamman

Hello, I'm Katharine. One of my favorite sayings is 'If not now, when?' I love working with clients who are in transition, especially when in that liminal space which is not quite 'there' but has passed beyond the old 'here.' For so many of the people I have worked with, this is an amazing place—a landing from which to dream, discuss, and try on new directions. I have over 25 years of experience working with people who struggle with addiction and their families. As a Certified Addiction Specialist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I have found that the substances often at the center of addiction are merely symptoms of underlying problems. The years 2020 to 2022 have been a liminal space for me as well, during which I have focused on working with individuals in recovery, families, and those challenged by mental health conditions, especially anxiety. My skills and expertise are solid and built upon my personal experiences with many of the challenges you might imagine. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which evidence shows is highly effective for trauma. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, a client-centered mindfulness approach, feels most authentic to me in my work with people. I welcome the opportunity to walk with you and assist you, wherever you are on your journey.
