Psychotherapist

I believe that healing happens when we have the space to slow down, feel understood, and approach ourselves with curiosity rather than judgment. My work is grounded in the belief that each person's story is unique, and therapy should reflect that. I draw from both cognitive and somatic approaches to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and patterns of coping. My experience includes providing individual and group therapy in a state psychiatric hospital, a men's correctional facility, and private practice settings, which has allowed me to work with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, grief, or a major life transition, I strive to create a supportive and collaborative space where meaningful growth and lasting change can occur.

Getting to know Katherine Cooper

What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, especially if you've never done it before or if past experiences have left you unsure of what to expect. My goal is to offer a space where you can talk openly about what you're going through and feel supported as we work together to better understand it. I tend to be warm, curious, and collaborative in sessions. Some days that may look like processing emotions or difficult experiences, while other days may focus on learning practical skills, exploring patterns, or finding new ways to respond to challenges. I draw from a variety of approaches and tailor therapy to the individual rather than expecting clients to fit a specific model. While I bring clinical training and experience, I also recognize that you are the expert on your own life. My hope is that therapy feels like a place where you can show up authentically, gain insight, and move toward the changes that are important to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first few sessions are typically focused on getting to know you, understanding what has brought you to therapy, and exploring what you hope to gain from the process. I take time to learn about your current concerns, personal history, relationships, strengths, and any experiences that may be influencing how you feel today. From there, therapy becomes a collaborative process guided by your goals and needs. Some sessions may focus on processing emotions or past experiences, while others may be more focused on building coping skills, exploring patterns, improving relationships, or navigating current challenges. I believe therapy should be flexible and responsive to where you are in the moment, while also keeping sight of the larger goals that brought you in. Throughout the process, I aim to provide a supportive space where you can gain insight, build resilience, and create meaningful change at a pace that feels manageable for you.
