I’m Katie Corbin, and I grew up in north Alabama. I’m currently pursuing licensure as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). I work with children, teens, and adults, using art, sandtray, talk therapy, and play therapy depending on age, alongside psychoeducation and open conversation. I foster inclusive spaces where individuals and families can find deeper connection with each other and be equipped with the strategies they need to thrive.

I’m Katie Corbin, and I grew up in north Alabama. What should a new client know about working with you?

If you’re bringing in a child or teen, I work with them alongside you as their parent, because supporting the whole family helps everyone move toward what’s working best. Depending on their age, we might use art, sandtray, or play therapy in session, along with talk therapy as they’re ready for it. I especially love helping parents and caregivers understand their child’s developmental stage, build healthy boundaries, and navigate day-to-day behavior with more ease. For adults, I blend psychoeducation, expressive therapies, and open conversation to help you understand your own story and build on your strengths — and I’m affirming of LGBTQ+ identity and exploration for clients of any age.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Before your first session, our Client Care Coordinator, Heather, will reach out to complete paperwork and make sure I’m a good match for what you’re looking for — so we can focus on you from the beginning. For adults, the first few sessions are about getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and identifying what you’d like to change or work toward. From there, I tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals. You’re the expert on your own life, and I bring the clinical knowledge and tools. Together, we’ll decide what feels most helpful and adjust along the way. For teens, a parent joins for part of the first session before I begin meeting individually with the teen. For younger children, the first session is parents only, with both parents encouraged to attend. If parents are divorced, both must consent to treatment. After that, I meet with your child using developmentally appropriate approaches such as Child-Centered Play Therapy, art, and sand tray therapy. I also meet with parents every 4–6 weeks to discuss progress and ways to support goals at home. Regardless of age, therapy is collaborative, individualized, and designed to grow and change with you.
