Katherine Dilks, LMFT

Psychotherapist
PA
Hi there, my name is Katie and I am trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist. I am here to help you through your struggles and I believe that healing happens through connection and understanding. I work from a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens to help individuals, couples, and families build safety, strengthen relationships, and rediscover hope in their everyday lives. I want to collaborate with you on your goals and provide compassionate care while staying grounded in the belief that every person holds the innate capacity to heal, grow, and thrive. I have been in practice since 2009 with my first internship and quickly moved on after graduating to working with children and families in foster care. After gaining my license in New Jersey, I chose to go back to school for my doctoral degree with a goal of understanding attachment, caregiving, and emotions as deeply as I could. Since graduating I have been working in private practice and I teach masters level classes and supervise learning therapists. My personal interests are tattoos, video games, board games, jigsaw puzzles, running, and lifting weights. I live with my family consisting of my husband and our two dogs. If who I am speaks to you, I am looking forward to getting to know you.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m known for my ability to create a calm, supportive environment where clients feel truly seen and understood. I accept my clients for who they are regardless of their context and difficulties. I believe that my clients are experts on their own lives and I am an expert in my field. With those beliefs, treatment must be collaborative. My approach helps clients make meaningful connections between their past and present, fostering emotional awareness, resilience, and stronger relationships. I tend to lean into psychoeducation and science to help my clients understand the mechanisms that are at work within their brains and bodies that contribute to what they are feeling. If you too are into learning, I can supply you with more articles than you have time to read!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach is collaborative and trauma-informed. I work with clients to identify the underlying experiences, relational patterns, and beliefs that contribute to emotional distress and interfere with overall well-being. By exploring how early relationships and attachment experiences, as well as significant life events shape current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, we can develop a deeper understanding of the challenges you face and create meaningful, lasting change. Treatment is tailored to your individual needs and goals, integrating clinically supported interventions to address concerns such as trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, identity development, and other emotional or behavioral challenges. Together, we will process experiences that continue to impact your present, strengthen emotional regulation and develop healthier coping strategies. I strive to provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment where clients feel empowered to explore difficult experiences, build insight, and develop the skills necessary to create healthier relationships, improve overall functioning, and move toward a more fulfilling and authentic life.
