Katherine Mckeown, LCSW

Psychotherapist
IL
As a Licensed Social Worker, I am passionate about supporting individuals, families, and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds and populations. I strive to create a compassionate, inclusive, and collaborative therapeutic environment that recognizes each person's unique strengths, experiences, abilities, and potential. My approach is grounded in respect, dignity, and the belief that meaningful growth is possible when individuals feel understood, supported, and empowered. I have extensive clinical experience working with individuals with developmental, cognitive, and behavioral differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), intellectual disabilities, behavioral disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS), and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I also have experience supporting individuals and families navigating memory loss, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. My background includes grief counseling and end-of-life planning, with an emphasis on providing compassionate support through periods of loss, adjustment, and transition. My therapeutic training includes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques. Drawing from ACT principles, I emphasize psychological flexibility, acceptance, present-moment awareness, and values-guided action. I support clients in recognizing their individual strengths, developing effective coping strategies, and identifying meaningful ways to engage in life, even when faced with challenging thoughts, emotions, or circumstances. I believe therapy should honor each individual's unique way of experiencing the world while fostering autonomy, connection, and personal growth.
