Hello! My name is Katherine McVay, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas with three years of professional work experience. I hold a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, as well as a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas, San Antonio. I have worked in a school setting for the past two years, primarily with children and adolescents. Additionally, I have worked with couples and families to help improve communication, repair relational patterns, and provide strategies and coping skills to members of a group. Over the past year, I have also been seeing clients online regularly, addressing a variety of topics including trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, motivation, self-esteem and confidence, and managing life changes. I primarily focus on working with survivors of trauma and supporting clients through life transitions. I enjoy finding out-of-the-box solutions to your current and past challenges by using creative interventions and regular self-monitoring activities. As your counselor, I will work with you to create an open and safe environment where your thoughts and feelings can be shared, and you feel supported throughout the counseling process. I collaborate with you to empower yourself and build trust in both the counseling journey and your own insights. I am a Neuro-Affirming, LGBTQIA+ Affirming clinician. Taking the first step to sign up for counseling takes courage, and I am proud of you for getting started!

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect to work in a safe space to explore your own challenges and work with me to provide out of the box solutions and coping skills. You can also expect to be listened to, and respected as you are the expert of your own life, I am here only to guide you through your processing. I also like to empower clients to sort through their ideas, beliefs, and challenges in an encouraging environment. You can expect to leave with an individualized goal plan, that I work with you to detail. Expect to also find compassion and acceptance every step of the way of your own counseling journey.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
