Getting to know Katherine Rubi Garcia

You can understand your patterns and still feel stuck in them. I specialize in EMDR and trauma therapy for adults struggling with unresolved trauma, anxiety, betrayal, relationship wounds, and painful experiences that continue to affect how they think, feel, and respond. My work goes beyond traditional talk therapy. I use EMDR and evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches to help clients process experiences that may be keeping their mind and nervous system in survival mode. Rather than only learning how to cope with symptoms, we work toward addressing what is driving them. My goal is lasting change: helping you feel safer within yourself, break patterns that no longer serve you, and move through life with greater confidence, clarity, and emotional freedom.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You won't find a therapist who simply sits back, nods, and asks, “How does that make you feel?” I am warm and compassionate, but I am also engaged, intentional, and active in the therapy process. Many of my clients are insightful. They already know why they feel the way they do. The frustrating part is that knowing hasn't necessarily changed how they feel. That's where our work becomes different. Together, we'll identify the experiences, beliefs, triggers, and patterns keeping you stuck and work toward actually processing them, and not just talking about them week after week. I'll help you understand what's happening beneath the surface while giving you a space where you can be completely honest without judgment. You don't need to show up knowing exactly what to say or where to begin. That's my job to help you navigate.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin by understanding what is bringing you to therapy, but we don't stop at the symptoms. I want to understand the experiences, relationships, beliefs, and patterns underneath them, and how your nervous system has learned to respond to what you've been through. From there, we create a treatment plan tailored to you. When appropriate, I incorporate EMDR to help process unresolved experiences and reduce the emotional intensity they continue to carry. We may also work on nervous system regulation, identifying triggers, challenging deeply held beliefs, and developing healthier ways of responding to yourself and others. The goal isn't to erase your past. It's to help your past stop having so much power over your present. Over time, we're looking for more than insight. We're looking for meaningful shifts in how you feel, what you believe about yourself, how you respond to triggers, and how you show up in your relationships and your life.
