Getting to know Kathleen McCarty

Katie McCarty is a therapist and licensed social worker who specializes in working with adults and adolescents experiencing a range of life issues and mental health concerns, including anxiety, panic disorder, chronic depression, bipolar disorder, grief, attachment trauma, gender identity, and unstable self-esteem. She holds a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the Center for Children and Families at Erikson Institute. Katie's work with clients focuses on creating a safe therapeutic space where they feel understood and affirmed while learning to use self-knowledge to feel better, move toward goals, and recognize resiliency. She greatly enjoys guiding and collaborating with clients to engage in the healing process on their own terms. Katie uses a client-centered approach that is attunement-focused but can also be mutual, playful, and challenging. She has post-graduate training from the Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy in integrative psychodynamic therapy and employs skills-based modalities including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), CBT, and mindfulness to meet clients where they most need support. Katie strongly believes in the power of long-term psychodynamic work to help understand the roots of ingrained emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal patterns and to transform areas where we feel most stuck.
