I’m Kathleen Musca, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing supportive, mindful therapy to teens and adults. I work with people navigating anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, trauma, self-esteem, and the many ways life can sometimes feel overwhelming. My approach is relational, integrative, and individualized. I draw from evidence-based approaches including CBT, ACT, DBT, mindfulness-based, trauma-focused, interpersonal, narrative, strengths-based therapies, and Brainspotting. Brainspotting can be especially helpful for clients who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or have tried traditional talk therapy but want to work more directly with the emotional and physiological impact of difficult experiences. I believe therapy should provide both support and forward movement. Many clients begin to experience some relief early in the therapeutic process as they gain understanding, develop practical tools, and begin addressing what is contributing to their symptoms. At the same time, lasting change often takes time, practice, and a willingness to explore deeper patterns. My goal is to create a safe, authentic space where you feel heard without judgment while also helping you make meaningful changes. Therapy isn't about “fixing” you or becoming someone you're not. It's about understanding yourself more deeply, feeling better in the present, and developing the tools and resilience to navigate life more effectively moving forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You don’t need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. You don’t even need to know exactly what you need help with. We can start wherever you are and figure it out together. My style is warm, open, direct, and conversational. I listen carefully and without judgment, but I’m also willing to challenge you when I think it could be helpful. Therapy with me is collaborative—you are the expert on your own life, and I bring clinical knowledge, perspective, curiosity, and support to the process. There is also plenty of room for humor in healing. Therapy can be meaningful and hard work without feeling stiff or overly formal. I believe you should be able to feel some movement early in therapy. We’ll focus on what is most important to you right now and look for ways to help you feel better and function more effectively from the beginning. Depending on your needs, this might include practical coping strategies, mindfulness, changing unhelpful thought patterns, or Brainspotting. Brainspotting is a powerful mind-body approach that can help people process experiences and emotions that feel difficult to resolve through talking alone. It can be particularly helpful when you understand something intellectually but still feel stuck emotionally or physically. While some relief can happen relatively quickly, deeper and more lasting change usually develops over time. My goal is to help you experience meaningful progress now while also addressing the underlying patterns that brought you to therapy in the first place.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work begins with getting to know you—not just what brings you to therapy, but who you are, what matters to you, and what you hope will be different. Early sessions are focused on understanding what is happening, identifying your most important concerns, and finding ways to help you begin feeling better. I don't believe you have to wait months to experience a benefit from therapy. We’ll identify practical ways to address your current symptoms and challenges while also looking at the patterns or experiences contributing to them. Many clients experience some symptom relief early on, even as deeper work continues. Depending on your needs and goals, our work may include traditional talk therapy, practical coping skills, mindfulness, cognitive and behavioral strategies, relationship work, or Brainspotting. Brainspotting is a mind-body therapy that can be particularly useful for trauma, overwhelming emotions, and experiences where you feel “stuck” despite understanding them intellectually. As therapy progresses, we’ll continue to evaluate what is helping and adjust our approach accordingly. Sometimes the work is about feeling better in the here and now; sometimes it involves processing deeper experiences, changing longstanding patterns, or developing a different relationship with yourself. My goal is to balance both: helping you get some relief and traction early while creating the deeper, lasting changes that allow you to feel more capable and resilient long after therapy ends.
