Kathleen Poissot, LMHC

Psychotherapist
WA
My name is Kathy Poissot, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Seattle, WA, working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults 18 years and older and specialize in general mental health and relationship challenges using Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to help clients make progress and start feeling better. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Boston University and a Master's in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University, which have provided me with a strong foundation to support my clients effectively. My approach to therapy varies based on each client's needs. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, as both help build a common understanding of their situation so we can create a plan to move forward. I have found my style fits adults dealing with stressors of life transitions in a busy life. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, and addiction disorders. I work with clients to untangle these issues and build skills that allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life. My communication style is personable, empathic, and open-minded, with a bit of humor to create an environment where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to achieve their goals. I want clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything and confident we can work together to improve their life. When I was in high school, I decided to be a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. Whether as a school guidance counselor, Military Family Life Counselor, working in inpatient or intensive outpatient treatment centers, mental health centers, or through community volunteer opportunities, I have always been drawn to helping people through difficult times. I enjoy seeing individuals learn to trust themselves and grow into the best version of themselves.
