Kathleen Sopp, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
Hello. My name is Kathleen “Candy” Sopp. I am a licensed clinical social worker with a Master’s in Social Work from California State University Long Beach. For over 20 years, I have dedicated myself to helping people work toward becoming their best selves. I am passionate about helping others understand and develop insight into their maladaptive behaviors and how these may negatively impact their lives. Equally, I am committed to guiding others in learning new, healthier behaviors and coping skills to live their best lives. My approach involves utilizing a trauma-informed context with a focus on cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness, self-compassion, solution-focused strategies, and acceptance and commitment therapy techniques. I help clients address issues related to self-esteem, codependency, childhood trauma, and grief/loss. I work primarily with adults aged 18 to 65 who struggle with symptoms of anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, relationship issues, codependency, intimate partner violence, grief/loss, life transitions, and childhood trauma. In my communication style, I strive to create an environment where I collaborate with clients to address their reasons for seeking treatment. I foster openness and trust to mutually develop treatment goals. I often incorporate homework assignments to help clients focus on specific skill-building between sessions. My journey to mental healthcare began with a lifelong desire to be in a helping profession. I have spent most of my career as an LCSW in a pediatric hospital setting and am excited to take my career to this level of helping others in a one-on-one setting. I am driven by the belief that if people have the resources to develop insight, let go of negative thought patterns and behaviors, and cultivate new coping skills, self-forgiveness, and self-love, their lives can be positively transformed forever.
