Katie has over 15 years of experience in a variety of settings including adult/adolescent psychiatric inpatient/outpatient, dual diagnosis day treatment center, neurological residential center and a specialized school for behavioral and autistic needs. Katie has experience working with individuals/groups in areas of depression, mood disorders, psychiatric illness, autism spectrum, anxiety, relationship issues, couple and family counseling, loss and bereavement, conflict resolution and acceptance. Katie believes that everyone has inherent strengths and the goal of counseling is to establish a working plan towards emotional, mental, physical and social stability. Her approach is to empower individuals to implement positive strategies for personal growth and acceptance and encourage individuals to minimize interference. Her practice is based on a Cognitive Behavioral model with an eclectic approach. Katie has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples. As a mother of two, having a child who is on the spectrum, Katie can relate to the challenges that this can bring to a family, marriage, sibling and the child. She has experience educating individuals on how to overcome behavioral, social and educational challenges. She guides the family in reality based goals that achieve the least restrictive level of independence.
