Kathryn Klingle, LCSW

Psychotherapist
122 S Michigan Ave, Ste 1432, Chicago, IL
For many of us, the suffering of our past and the oppressive systems of our present can leave us anxious, depressed, and alienated. We may wonder how to feel agentic in our lives when the future feels so uncertain. Psychodynamic therapy offers the opportunity to revive our sense of agency. By articulating our thoughts, feelings, and experiences, we are able to transform them, opening up a greater sense of freedom and possibility in our lives. Once we begin to imagine these new possibilities for ourselves – even possibilities outside of capitalism – we can create them. As a therapist, I work with clients to build the life and relationships they want by helping them reconnect with their emotional experience and learn to recognize and change the patterns getting in their way. My goal is to be responsive, communicative, and reliable, while bringing both emotional depth and a sense of humor to sessions. My practice is informed by my background in gender studies. This means I often pay special attention to how our choices and actions may be informed by unconscious beliefs around race, class, gender, sexuality, and other social categories. Starting therapy takes courage, especially if you’ve had difficult experiences with therapy in the past. With this in mind, my approach centers clients’ self-determination, goals, and desires. I invite my clients to be open and honest with me about how our work together is going and believe that this exchange is vital to the therapeutic process. Ultimately, I believe all things can be talked about, even things that feel shameful, embarrassing, or socially awkward. If you are interested in psychodynamic therapy and think we could be a good fit, please reach out with any questions about the process or to schedule an initial consultation.
