Getting to know Kathryn McNichol

I have been a licensed therapist for over a decade and worked at Mayo Clinic, Dignity, Banner Health & Aurora Behavioral Health Hospital. Using CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, & psychodynamic therapies, I’m here to help you create meaningful relationship and fulfilling life! Life-this being human-has inherently difficult challenges, and no one gets out unscathed! For those troubling times that we all encounter, the wise guidance of a skilled and empathic therapist can help you generate invaluable insights that lead to healing and growth. In a safe and non-judgmental environment, I work with clients like you who are in distress and in need of assistance in righting their life-ship. I am honored to work with you if you struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma/PTSD, life transitions, relationship issues/marital issues, emotion dysregulation/BPD, behavioral issues, loss/grief, or low self-esteem. I employ a number of therapeutic modalities including DBT, CBT, Existential/Spiritual, Interpersonal, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, and Solution-focused Therapy. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University, Tempe Campus, which has equipped me with a strong foundation to support and guide you through your healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You may lack self-compassion, but when you begin to engage in therapy, new neural pathways are forged in your brain. As these new neural networks are created, old negative thinking patterns begin to be replaced by the new and positive re-patterning that results moves you towards wholeness and health—and your best self. Positive changes foster a new sense of empowerment, and these structurally changes can literally be seen in a FMRI brain scan. Evidence-based data now shows that real and lasting change is absolutely in reach of everyone! I have had my own wonderful therapists and have been fortunate enough to have received the wise guidance and compassionate understand that precipitates real change and healing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Attention to the past is driven by how these patterns influence your life today. Our culture does not always support mental health or our general wellbeing. We provide re-acculturation to social rules based on respecting uniqueness, autonomy and care, providing corrective emotional experience, tracking internal responses and supporting clients to harness the nervous system's natural healing mechanisms to restore memory, balance and connection.
