Kathryn Nevin, LCSW

Kathryn Nevin, LCSW

Psychotherapist
VA
Thank you for looking into choosing me as a therapist. I'm glad you're looking for help. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of experience. I received my undergraduate degree in English Literature (and Spanish Literature) from Swarthmore College and my Master's degree in Social Work from Widener University. I am certified as a Clinical Trauma Professional. I see adults over the age of 18 and I primarily empower people to overcome trauma. I use EMDR, Cognitive Therapy, DBT, the Structural Dissociation Model (parts work), and Psychodynamic Therapy among other approaches. I work eclectically, pulling from different therapies to match what you need. I really enjoy the work I do. And I enjoy including poetry, literature, and drama into therapy as a way of exploring ways of recovering with you. As a recovered trauma survivor myself, I appreciate how hard it can be to work through trauma and how freeing it is to have worked it through. I also treat a wide variety of other issues, such as depression and anxiety/panic, life transitions, and anger, among other things.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The very first session consists of a full assessment so that I can get to know you and help identify what you would like to change. In the early stages of trauma work, you will gain a lot of knowledge about the traumatized brain and the neurobiology of trauma. After that, I typically work with you to learn grounding, relaxation, and other skills to help you regulate your emotions and to soothe a great deal of your trauma symptoms. We can work at your pace, of course. I work a lot with the body, helping you to reconnect with your physical self in a safe way. From there, you can choose from a number of avenues to take which I will discuss fully with you so you can decide what will work best for you, whether it be EMDR or parts work, for example.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
