Any marriage that begins outside these boundaries is likely to face turbulence and, in many cases, utter destruction that impacts future generations. In fact, today, over half of all marriages end in divorce. As a counselor who specializes in premarital and marital therapy, I am well aware of the various dynamics that lead couples into troubled waters. I am here to prevent you from wading too deeply and to offer a life preserver to those who have already taken the plunge. My husband of twenty-nine years counsels with me to provide additional insight into the dynamics between married couples and those on the path to marriage. We offer a unique perspective that stems from our own early marital struggles and wealth of premarital and marital counseling experiences through decades of ministry in private practice and Focus on the Family's Hope Restored marriage intensive program. People have become numb in the way they live—detached from God, their marriage, their children, and their purpose. God's desire is for us to live the fully restored life that He promises in His Word—a life of happiness and joy free from the bondage of sin, addiction, and shame.
